A cool boring story

Semi-Marathon

Long time no see, right? It’s been a while since I’ve tackled a longer run, but I figured Sunday was the perfect opportunity to start gearing up for next year’s marathon. Lately, I’ve been focusing more on short-distance training, so it’s high time I shift gears and start logging those longer miles if I want to seriously compete.

One of the things I love about long runs in Paris is the variety of scenery you get to experience. It’s like a tour of the city with every step, and changing up my running routes definitely helps keep things interesting. So, this time around, I decided to kick off from the Tuileries and make my way towards the iconic Bir-Hakeim bridge – you know, the one that gives you major ‘Inception’ vibes.

After crossing over, I headed towards the next bridge, leading me onto the Île aux Cygnes (I hope I got that name right!). It’s amazing how crossing the river can make you feel like you’re entering a whole new world, even if it’s just a few steps away from where you started. From there, I looped back on the eastern side of the Seine, making sure to take in all the sights along the way. And of course, no Parisian run would be complete without a nod to history – hence, the obligatory Pont d’Austerlitz reference. Napoleon’s legacy lives on!

By the time I circled back to the Tuileries for that final kilometer home, I’ll admit, it was tough going. But hey, no pain, no gain, right? Sure, my knees are feeling it today, but there’s a certain satisfaction in pushing your limits and knowing you gave it your all.

So, here’s to more challenging runs ahead and the satisfaction of knowing each step brings me closer to my marathon goal. Who knows, maybe next time I’ll discover a new favorite route or stumble upon a hidden gem tucked away in the streets of Paris. Until then, I’ll wear these sore knees as badges of honor and keep chasing that runner’s high. Bring it on, Monday – I’m ready for you!
